As a Research Assistant, you will be assigned to a certain sector and will work in close collaboration with both the account manager and partners of the company.

As a Research Assistant at Instinctif Partners you will not only be given an in-depth knowledge of different industry areas, but you will also learn a great deal about how EU institutions work.

You will be liaising with the European Parliament and be in regular contact with the Council, the European Commission and various EU stakeholders. The position will give you a broad knowledge of working in the public affairs sector through practical experience and formal training seminars.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring of the latest developments in the European Institutions (European Parliament, Commission and Council), member states and the media;
  • Attending committee meetings in the European Parliament, following the issues relevant to your practice area;
  • Attending Commission hearings, various conferences and seminars on related topics;
  • Assisting in the organisation of conferences and meetings with clients;
  • Researching projects on a variety of issues;
  • Assisting in formulating policy and position papers;
  • Assisting the account manager on the various other services Instinctif Partners provides, such as drafting press releases, updating websites and liaising with trade associations.

Communication and Project Assistant

Job description and scope of activities:

  • You will be involved in a European project on biomethane - drafting press releases, project newsletter and general communication within the project team; providing technical support within the project;
  • You will provide a general assistance to the technical department - drafting country profiles and collecting data for the Biogas Report 2015;
  • You will support EBA’s communication activities - preparing articles for the website, newsletter, press releases, social media and general maintenance of those; analysis of biogas, biomethane and gasification in media; language check of the external communication;

Requirements

The European Microfinance Network (EMN) is actually seeking to appoint a person to assist the Communication and Events Officer on EMN communication, on its promotion through social media and on the events organized by the Network.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To support the organization of the EMN Annual Conference

  • Support the Officer in the logistics;
  • Liaise with speakers and delegates, and answer their questions;
  • Promote the AC through external websites, networks, platforms, etc.;
  • Regularly update the Conference website;
  • Assist the Officer in marketing the AC;
  • Assist the team in the recruitment of sponsors.

To improve and support the communication and social media strategy

  • Boost and cooperate in the management of Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook accounts;
  • Implement and develop the communication strategy in order to increase the social media activity and community.

To manage the EMN website

To support and learn from the work of our multinational team of professionals skilled in advocacy, research, policy development and communications, we are offering an internship post based in Brussels. The post will run for up to 6 months from April until September 2015. It is offered according to national conditions in Belgium, for which you must be eligible now.

You will learn about how an international network operates in an EU policy and practice environment and how a range of major policy issues apply to public health needs. You may be in frequent contact with the main EU institutions and international organisations. The principal knowledge building tasks in which you may be asked to participate will include:

  • EU Policy monitoring

You will help to study and report on policy and legislative developments at EU level in specific areas relevant to promoting health and social equity as part of our PHASE team. You will pay particular attention to the debates related to the sustainability of health systems, the EU Platform against Poverty & Social Exclusion (of which EuroHealthNet is a member), the EU Semester, employment and sustainable development policies. You will help to monitor and report on relevant events and processes in EU institutions and other organisations.

  • Research & information gathering at (sub)national levels

You will help to extend our knowledge about developments for health and social wellbeing at national and sub national levels. You will support information gathering on ESIF, national programmes and policies related to health equity. You will monitor outputs from relevant sources of scientific and policy information and help ensure they are communicated to our partners.

  • Event support

You will help the EuroHealthNet team to prepare for our annual meeting in June and advance preparations for a policy conference to be held in 2016. You will help organize webinars and meetings with representatives and experts in European countries and EU institutions.

  • Website support

You will help keep the EuroHealthNet websites and social media updated. This includes administration and contributing content, plus scanning of relevant matters to be featured.

Abilities needed:

You must be absolutely fluent in written and spoken English; other languages will be an advantage but are not essential. Good evidence of communications skills (traditional and ICT) will be needed, plus evidence of abilities to research and grasp complex subjects quickly and communicate them to people unfamiliar with EU or sectoral concepts and jargons.

You will need to be able to show a substantial interest in and knowledge of health and/or social policies and practices, particularly with a focus on equity.

Please note:  this will be primarily a practical learning experience of professional not for profit networking at EU, rather than further academic studies, although some study work in the field of health inequalities and/or of EU policy and processes will be included.

You should be able to work collaboratively and responsibly. There will be scope to contribute to and develop initiatives. We expect you to be committed to complete the full 6 months period.

The European Centre for Democracy and Human Rights (ECDHR) is the European representation of a network of NGOs composed of Americans for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB), the Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR) and the Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy (BIRD) seeking to promote human rights and democracy in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Region.

The ECDHR is in charge of representing the network at the EU level to engage in awareness raising and conduct a public affairs strategy with EU stakeholders in order to defend and uphold human rights and democracy in the Gulf.

The ECDHR is looking for an intern for a period of six months, on a full-time basis, to help with its tasks and mission in its Brussels’ office.

Responsibilities

The intern will:

  • Monitor and report on the EU policy, legal and political developments relevant to ECDHR’s mission;
  • Follow and report on hearings, briefings, and other meetings in Brussels to help foment ECDHR’s work;
  • Assist with advocacy campaigns by conducting research and preparing background memos and other written materials;
  • Assist in social media campaigns and the drafting of external communications, including blog posts, editorial pieces, and informative backgrounders;
  • Support lengthy analytical external reports through research and writing;
  • Engage in mapping and outreach exercises with EU stakeholders;

Qualifications and Skills

The ideal candidate will be/have:

  • A degree (minimum 3 years of higher education) in European Studies, Law, Politics, International Relations or Communications;
  • The candidate will preferably hold a Masters’ degree in a similar discipline;
  • A minimum of previous 6 month’s experience in working on EU Public Affairs or EU Communications in highly desirable;
  • Previous work experience in the EU Institutions is a plus;
  • Full working knowledge of the EU Institutions and the EU’s decision-making process;
  • Interested in and knowledgeable of human rights issues, particularly with respect to freedom of speech, expression, and association, due process rights, and/or prisoners’ rights;

Your role

The successful applicant for the Communications Traineeship will:

  • Prepare GBE communications material (print, online and social media) in English;
  • Meet with journalists and others to convey what environmental fiscal reform means and its importance;
  • Support the maintenance of our website, network and contact database;
  • Give organisational and administrative support for managing events and the Green Budget Europe network;
  • Support for the implementation of advocacy activities on EU and Member State level;
  • Collate and produce of our English language newsletter, and
  • Research on MBIs for the environment, the European Semester process and other relevant topics for the work of GBE.

The trainee will benefit from editing, oversight and guidance of their draft material by native English speakers (already retained by GBE), something which will aid the development of the trainee’s skill base.
