Internship in European Affairs/Financial Sector

ECSDA is a professional European association active in the financial sector. We are looking for a student internship in early 2015 (unpaid), for 3-4 months depending on university requirements.

The primary mission of the intern will be to prepare a 10-20 page research report on an issue of particular interest to the CSD community. The topic currently under consideration pertains to shareholder transparency and CSD services for shareholder identification services, but other topics can be envisaged. The intern will be expected to research publicly available information as well as private sources and will benefit from the support of fellow staff members as required, but (s)he must be prepared to deal with technical issues in the area of financial markets services.

In addition to working on this report (which is expected to be completed by the end of the internship, and ultimately published), the intern will have opportunities to contribute to one or more of the following, depending on individual preferences and aptitudes:

  • Development of tutorials or other educational material on the CSD business;
  • Drafting meeting and legislation summaries;
  • Organisation of and participation in meetings with members and external parties;
  • Updating the website, suggesting and implementing functionality improvements;
  • Improvement and further extension of the CSD online database.

Trainee - Healthcare Biotechnology Team

Today, the Healthcare Biotechnology Team of EuropaBio is looking for a motivated trainee for a period of 6 months from January to July 2015. You would be working closely together with industry experts within a small and dynamic multinational team, based at the EuropaBio secretariat, in Brussels. This traineeship would provide valuable insights, contacts and experience for candidates interested in policy development, advocacy and implementation for a fast-growing sector, involving the EU Institutions and various relevant stakeholders. This traineeship will allow direct involvement, under the supervision of the other team members, in priority work areas for EuropaBio Healthcare (e.g. Personalised Medicines, Advanced Therapies, R&D policies, Biosimilars, Orphan Medicines and patients’ access to innovative treatments).

Tasks/Projects

During the six month’s period, the trainee will be asked to assist with a range of tasks. These may include requests to:

  • Assist in updating, researching and drafting of Healthcare Biotechnology policy documents and position papers;
  • Assist with administrative tasks for the Healthcare Biotechnology team, including for the organisation of events, the management of working group meetings, and drafting of minutes;
  • Help with the preparation of internal and external communications materials and correspondence for the team;
  • Monitor press, help to review and summarise news on the Healthcare Biotechnology industries and assist with the preparation of the Association’s internal and external newsletters;
  • Help with monitoring and mapping of developments and activities in and around the European Council, Parliament and Commission on a wide variety of issues;
  • Help prepare activities related to the forthcoming Presidencies;
  • Attend external events and prepare briefing notes to summarise these for the biotech team.

Candidate Profile

  • Must be an EU citizen (with the necessary permits to work throughout the EU);
  • Must be graduated in EU affairs and/or public health, political sciences, law or other area relevant to Healthcare Biotechnology;
  • Must have an interest in the Healthcare Biotechnology sector;
  • Must have a very high standard of both written and spoken English (office language); fluency in other EU languages will be considered an asset;

We are offering an internship as a World Congress 2015 Congress Assistant in the Capacity Center at the ICLEI World Secretariat in Bonn, Germany.

Tasks:

Support the Capacity Center’s work on planning, preparing and implementing the ICLEI World Congress 2015:

  • Prepare communications, announcements, promotional materials, etc. for the ICLEI World Congress 2015 and support their dissemination;
  • Support the development of content for the ICLEI World Congress 2015 website and social media outlets;
  • Support the management of congress participants by processing congress registrations and managing participants and speakers in the congress database;
  • Communicate regularly with event participants, speakers, sponsors and partners;
  • Support congress program development in following up on invitations to potential congress speakers;

Requirements

  • Strong interest in the areas of cities and local government, urban planning & management, environmental sustainability, climate change;

Terms and conditions

  • The World Congress 2015 Congress internship position at the ICLEI World Secretariat in Bonn, Germany is available as of January 2015 for a period of 6 months. The World Congress 2015 Congress Assistant reports to the Head of ICLEI Global Capacity Center, and day-to-day supervision of tasks will be done by the members of the ICLEI World Congress 2015 team;
  • ICLEI offers interns a cost compensation which will range between 1400€ and 1600€ Euro per month, (depending on German labor law decisions in the beginning of 2015);
  • Workings hours: 40/week, 2 days of paid leave per month (i.e. 12 days for six months internship);
  • Working language: English;
  • Due to legal requirements, applicants must be eligible to obtain the appropriate work permit for Germany prior to the start of the position.

EU Advocacy Internship - Spring/Summer 2015

The Advocacy division of Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking a full-time intern for the Brussels office. The intern will primarily focus on advocacy projects related to the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy/External Relations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, monitoring the activities and policies of the European Union in the area of human rights; organizing and/or attending meetings; promoting HRW report findings; writing correspondences; conducting research; and some administrative tasks. The internship will start on 2 March and will last for a minimum of four to six months.

This internship is unpaid. However, interns may be reimbursed for some lunch and local travel costs as pre-approved by HRW and in accordance with HRW policy. HRW internships often offer direct exposure to the workings of an international human rights organization, close supervision by the HRW staff, interaction with international organizations and foreign and domestic government officials, and opportunities to attend lectures, trainings and special events relating to human rights at the EU and elsewhere.

Qualifications: Applicants should be well-organized, highly motivated, proactive, reliable, and willing to learn, with a good knowledge of and proven interest in international human rights. They must possess an excellent verbal and written command of English. French and/or any other EU language skills are also advantageous. Applicants must have strong knowledge of EU foreign policy and excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and internet research tools. INTA - International Trademark Association - Europe Representative Office

The International Trademark Association (INTA) is a global association of trademark owners and professionals dedicated to supporting trademarks and related intellectual property in order to protect consumers and to promote fair and effective commerce. The Association has over 6,200 members in more than 190 countries, with over a quarter based in Europe.

We are looking for an intern for INTA’s Europe Representative Office in Brussels to assist us in our communications and membership development in Europe. This role is best suited for a student with a combined interest in communications, marketing, intellectual property issues and the EU media and institutional environment.

Working under the supervision of the Coordinator – Europe Representative Office and with relevant colleagues in the Europe Office and New York Headquarters, the intern will perform the following (non-exhaustive) tasks:

Communications:

  • Monitoring the professional and generalist EU and national press as well as relevant blogs;
  • Researching and building a database of influential journalists and bloggers that cover or may cover IP issues;
  • Drafting press releases on relevant issues and events;
  • Planning and executing internal communications to INTA members regarding trademark topics in Europe;

REQUIREMENTS:

The successful candidate should be enrolled at a university where an internship is mandatory for the fulfilment of his/her degree and where an INTERNSHIP AGREEMENT / "CONVENTION DE STAGE" with the employer is available. This is a COMPULSORY REQUIREMENT. The internship will be unpaid but an allowance will be made available.
